Ministry of Economic Development has revealed unvaccinated individuals will be exempt from receiving some services. The economic ministry made the decision in accordance with the special measures taken by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Abubakur as part of the state of the public health emergency announced in the Maldives.
The ministry urged all eligible individuals to get vaccinated and stated that businesses have been ordered to place special measures for unvaccinated customers. The measures include prioritising vaccinated customers at shops and food outlets, as well as banning individuals who have not received any dose of COVID-19 vaccines from gyms and salons. The economic ministry has also ordered all employees at businesses to complete the vaccine doses and has made PCR testing mandatory for employees who have not completed their vaccination.
The Government of the Maldives earlier announced special measures will be put in place for unvaccinated individuals starting from September 1. As such, Maldives Transport Authority (MTA) has banned unvaccinated individuals from using taxi services or travelling on domestic flights from September 1.
