New classrooms built in schools of two islands inaugurated

A virtual ceremony has been held to mark the completion of the Classrooms Project in the schools of Lhohi, Noonu Atoll and Kinolhas, Raa Atoll

This project was funded with a combined grant of USD 776,000, under the Indian grant assistance of USD 6.9 million. The ceremony held to inaugurate the new classrooms was attended by Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudhir and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and the two schools.

Under this project, additional classrooms have been constructed in both schools accommodating students in a single session of school, allowing schools to coordinate extra-curricular activities as a means to broadening perspectives of students and developing a diversity of skills and interests. Furthermore, the new classrooms provide access to advanced technology and increase accessibility by catering to the needs of differently abled students.

The financial support has been provided from the grant assistance of USD 6.9 million granted to the Maldives by India in March 2019. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact. The projects under this grant are managed by local authorities.
