Minister Shahid thanks the Japanese government for continued support to the Maldives

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid thanks Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga for providing continuous support to the Maldives.

Minister Shahid met the prime minister of Japan during his official visit to the country as the president-elect of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). During the meeting, Minister Shahid conveyed best wishes from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and shared his vision for the 76th session of the UNGA.
Minister Shahid also thanked the government and people of Japan for the continuous support to the people of Maldives, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his visit, Minister Shahid also met with Foreign Minister of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi and discussed various aspects of the Maldives-Japan relationship. The foreign minister also met with the Maldives Paralympic team in Tokyo and members of the Japan-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship League.

Furthermore, Minister Shahid held virtual interactions with Japanese journalists to share his vision and priorities for the UNGA and various bilateral and international issues.

Minister Shahid began his official visit to Japan as president-elect of the UNGA on August 26 following an invitation from the government of Japan.
