Ministry of Tourism has revealed the number of tourist arrivals recorded in the Maldives during August this year has exceeded the numbers from August 2019.
As per the statistics of the tourism ministry, the Maldives has recorded 120,529 tourist arrivals from August 1 until August 25. This is a 0.2% increase compared to the 120,341 tourist arrivals recorded during August 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tourism ministry revealed the tourist arrivals recorded so far in August has also exceeded the total number of arrivals recorded in July by 18%. During July, the Maldives recorded 101,818 tourist arrivals.
As per the statistics, the Maldives has recorded a total of 732,896 tourist arrivals so far this year. The country is currently recording an average of 4,821 tourist arrivals per day.
The statistics of the tourism ministry further revealed that Russia is the top source market for tourists to the Maldives this year, with 157,876 arrivals. India is second on the list with 146,206 arrivals, while Germany is third with 42,078 arrivals.
The tourism ministry revealed a tourist currently spends an average of 9 days in the Maldives.
