Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed 730 candidates are set to contest in the party’s upcoming internal elections.
Speaking at a press conference, Chairperson of MDP Hassan Latheef said the final list of candidates contesting the elections in September will soon be released. Latheef said all members registered in the party will be able to vote in the election, after verifying their membership and identification.
MDP is the largest political party in the Maldives, with over 93,000 members registered in the party. The internal elections to be held next month will be the party’s largest internal election, with over 300 ballot boxes set to be placed across the country. MDP said about 900 officials will be active during the election.
