President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has emphasised sports should be inclusive and open for all like any other field. He made the remarks in a tweet posted wishing success to the team competing in the Paralympic Games 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.
Sharing an excerpt from the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympics which shows the Maldivian contingent holding the flag, President Solih said fielding the first Paralympic team at the Tokyo Paralympics is an extremely proud moment for every Maldivian citizen. The Maldivian athletes will compete in the 100m sprint event.
The Maldives will be competing at the Paralympics from August 24 to September 5. In the debut appearance of the Maldives at the Paralympics, Mohamed Mazin and Fathimath Ibrahim were selected to participate and compete in the Games in Tokyo.
Maldives Paralympic Committee was established in 2019.
