Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated Maldivians can still travel to Sri Lanka after obtaining the required approval from the Electronic Travel Approval (ETA) system.
In relation to reports that some changes are being brought to the visa process in Sri Lanka, the foreign ministry said Maldivians can still follow the current procedure of seeking approval through the ETA system before travelling to Sri Lanka. The ministry said a 180-day visa can be obtained through the ETA system for a fee of USD 50. The ministry said when the new changes are in effect, Maldivians will once again be eligible for the 90-day free visa under the bilateral agreement signed between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The ETA system was implemented by the Government of Sri Lanka as part of the measures imposed to control the spread of COVID-19. Citizens of all countries are currently required to obtain approval from the ETA system before travelling to Sri Lanka.
