President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states ensuring gender equality among skilled youth engaged in the workforce is a major aim of implementing the National Skills Development Masterplan.
Speaking at the ceremony held to launch the National Skills Development Masterplan for the next five years, President Solih said the plan is a major component of the commitment of the administration to develop human resources. The president further said the implementation of the masterplan will relieve some of the challenges faced in the job market of the Maldives.
Noting it is the first time a five-year master plan was compiled for developing skilled human resources based on national needs, President Solih stated that human resource development is a priceless future investment. The the masterplan will minimise the gap between areas that develop human resources and areas which need more human resources, emphasised the president.
Further, the president urged the youth to make the best use of the opportunities provided by the administration for skills development and to contribute to the nation's progress. Highlighting several development projects are carried in the country, the president noted one primary objective of the master plan launched is to build adequate human resources to support institutions anticipated to emerge, following the conclusion of development projects being carried out across the islands.
Moreover, President Solih underlined the various benefits of the five-year plan include addressing some of the issues currently faced in employing Maldivians in technical positions and in reducing the number of foreigners recruited to the Maldives for employment. He added the plan would gradually address social and economic constraints, as well as enable decentralised human resource development and play a key part in the decentralised development.
