New yacht rally will help to market the Maldives in new ways: MMPRC

Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Thayyib Mohamed has stated the newly launched international yacht rally named “Savaadheetha Dhathuru”.

Savaadheetha Dhathuru, organised by Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC), is the first international yacht rally of the Maldives. The rally is scheduled to be held in February 2022, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Maldivian tourism industry.

Speaking at the ceremony held to launch the rally, Managing Director of MMPRC Thayyib Mohamed said the rally presents an opportunity to promote the Maldives in new ways. Highlighting the importance of such an event to boost tourism, Thayyib said MMPRC will provide its full support and cooperation to MITDC in carrying out the rally.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Managing Director of MITDC Mohamed Raaidh highlighted the importance of diversifying the tourism industry and promoting community tourism. Raaidh noted 15 islands from five atolls will be visited in the yacht rally, including four islands which are uninhabited. He noted the islands visited during the yacht rally would see economic developments subsequently.

The yacht rally has been named “Savaadheetha Dhathuru” based on the royal title of Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu who secured independence of the Maldives from Portuguese rule in the 16th century. In this regard, the rally’s theme is the life of Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu and his journey to secure the independence of the country.
