Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the harbour development project in Isdhoo, Laamu Atoll.
The project to expand and develop the Isdhoo harbour was contracted to MTCC in November last year. The project included dredging the existing harbour basin, construction of concrete quay walls, revetment and breakwater. The project also included the construction of a bridge connecting the concrete quay to the breakwater, and installation of navigational lights in the harbour entrance channel. The total cost of the project was USD 2.3 million.
Following the completion of the harbour development project, President of the Isdhoo Island Council Ibrahim Khaleel said the project has resolved one of the main difficulties faced in the island. Noting the island has 7 fishing boats and 4 cargo boats, Khaleel said the expansion of the harbour will remove the difficulties faced by local vessels in entering or exiting the island, as well as loading and unloading.
