Imports to the Maldives have increased 48% in July this year compared to the same period of last year.
Goods worth USD 181 million were imported to the Maldives in July this year, up from the USD 123 million worth of goods imported in July last year, according to statistics published by the Maldives Customs Service (MCS).
Although imports to the country increased this year, statistics show the income from imports-exports decreased in July compared to the income generated from imports-exports in July last year. As such, the state received USD 15.7 million from imports-exported last year in July, with the figure decreasing to USD 15.5 million this July.
According to statistics, the value of goods exported from the Maldives increased 8%. The statistics show that goods worth USD 13.13 million were exported from the Maldives during July last year while the figure increased to USD 14.16 million in July this year.
As per statistics, the Maldives imported most of the goods from China, Singapore and India. In this regard, goods worth USD 28.1 million, USD 22.5 million and USD 21.35 were imported from China, Singapore and India, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Maldives exported most of the goods to Thailand, which amounted to 37% of the total exports. The statistics showed 16% of the goods were exported to Germany, 12% to the UK and 4% to France.
