Government to submit 32 bills to parliament

Attorney General's (AG) Office has revealed the government plans to submit 32 bills to the Parliament of the Maldives.

AG Office has sent a list of bills it wishes to submit to the Parliament, in accordance with the parliamentary regulations.

The parliamentary regulations state the government is required to send a list of bills it plans to submit to the parliament before the start of a new session. The list submitted by AG Office includes the Maldives media and broadcasting authority bill, which the government has pledged to enact in order to reinforce its commitment to independent journalism and fair regulation of the media.

Other bills on the list include bills concerning legal evidence, compensation for defamation, diplomatic privileges, and some amendments.

Parliament began the last session of the year on August 16.
