MACL denies reports that VIA seaplane terminal has been handed over to the company

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has denied reports that the new seaplane terminal in Velana International Airport (VIA) has been completed and handed over to the company.

In a press statement, MACL stated reports by some news outlets that the seaplane terminal has been completed and handed over to MACL are false. However, MACL said the contractor has handed over the lounge area of the terminal on August 4, to allow the parties renting spaces in the lounge to complete their works. MACL said some finishing works are still required in the lounge area, despite the handover.

The new seaplane terminal is part of the USD 77 million investment to upgrade the services of VIA. 3.5 hectares of land were reclaimed in Hulhule’ for the development of the new seaplane terminal. The terminal will be equipped with VIP lounges, lobbies, baggage handling facilities, retail shops and food and beverage services.
