Road Development Corporation (RDC) has formally started paving works of the road development project in Milandhoo, Shaviyani Atoll.
The road development project in Milandhoo was contracted to RDC on March 12 this year. Under the project, RDC is developing 8 roads of Milandhoo, spanning a total of 6.15 kilometres. The project, which is worth USD 10 million, was contracted to be completed within 705 days.
The paving works of the project were officially inaugurated by Managing Director of RDC Moosa Ali Manik on August 13. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the managing director noted there have been some delays in procuring the materials required for the project, due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, he said significant progress has been achieved in the project with respect to the difficulties and challenges of the pandemic situation. As such, he noted 18% of the total project has been completed.
Milandhoo, which has a population of over 2,500, regularly faces the issue of flooding. The road development project is expected to resolve the issues related to flooding in the island.
