Maldives records over 6,000 tourist arrivals in one day

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 6,083 tourist arrivals were recorded on August 7.

The statistics from the tourism ministry show it is a record number of tourist arrivals in one day this year. The previous record for the highest daily number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives was 5,375 on March 26. The statistics also show a significant increase in the number of tourist arrivals in August, with an average of 4,847 tourist arrivals per day.

The daily tourist arrivals were below 100 right after the government re-opened the borders with some restrictions in July 2020. However, the number of tourist visits has been increasing following the efforts of the Maldives tourism industry. The average stay for tourists has also increased up to 10 days, which is the highest since the re-opening of the borders last year.

Additionally, the total number of tourist arrivals so far this year is recorded at 651,146, which is a 69% increase compared to the 386,454 tourist arrivals recorded in the same period in 2020. The Maldives currently has 773 open tourist establishments, including 156 resorts, 466 guesthouses, 141 safaris, and 10 hotels.
