Maldives records over 600,000 tourist arrivals so far this year

The Maldives has recorded over 600,000 tourist arrivals so far this year.

The latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism show that 600,252 tourists arrived in the Maldives between January 1 and July 28. The number of tourist arrivals is an 8% increase compared to the 555,494 tourists that visited the Maldives in 2020. The statistics also show 89,703 tourist arrivals in July, which is a 59.9% increase compared to the 56,166 tourist arrivals in June.

The number of tourist arrivals had significantly decreased earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, a daily average of 1,872 arrivals was recorded in May and 2,084 arrivals were recorded in June. However, the tourism ministry is currently recording a daily average of 3,204 tourist arrivals following the decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives.

A total of 140,824 tourists that visited the Maldives this year arrived from Russia, making the country the top source of tourist visits. India makes up the second-largest source of tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year with 99,643 arrivals.

The tourism ministry has stated that tourists stay in the Maldives for an average of nine days.
