Maldives and Bulgaria discuss widening cooperation in tourism sector

Maldives and Bulgaria have discussed ways to further explore opportunities to widen cooperation in the tourism sector.

The discussions on exploring opportunities to widen cooperation in the tourism sector between both countries took place during a meeting between the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Dr. Stella Baltova. At the meeting held at the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria, both ministers discussed ways to further strengthen and enhance the existing bilateral relations and exploring opportunities to widen cooperation in the tourism sector between the two countries.

Minister Shahid also noted the increase in tourists arriving from Bulgaria to the Maldives and expressed hope to see the further promotion of Maldivian tourism in Bulgaria as well as to see even more tourists from Bulgaria arriving in the Maldives. Both ministers discussed the measures taken to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the two countries and noted the importance of strong and comprehensive policies in addressing the pandemic. Minister Shahid also briefed the minister on his priorities as the president of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), noting that it was important for countries to come together to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Minister Baltova noted the importance of increasing connectivity for the promotion of tourism and expressed hope to see more transport connections between Bulgaria and the Maldives, and discussed further avenues for the promotion of tourism cooperation between the two countries.
