Russian-based airlines, Red Wings and Nordwind Airlines, are set to commence flight operations to the Maldives.
The two airlines will be commencing their operations to the Maldives in association with Resort Life Holidays, a Maldivian tour operator active in Russia. Speaking to PSM News, CEO of Resort Life Holidays Mohamed Shaaz Waleed said both airlines are currently in the process of acquiring permits to begin operations to the Maldives. He expressed confidence the permits can be acquired without any difficulties, noting the target is to begin operations in August.
The two airlines have decided to begin flight operations to the Maldives following a series of meetings held with Resort Life Holidays, which was also attended by Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom. During the meetings, the tourism minister highlighted the opportunities available for airlines in the Maldives, and discussed introduction of flights to Gan International Airport in Addu City.
Russia is currently the top source market of tourists to the Maldives. As per the latest statistics, Russia shares 23.8% of all tourist arrivals recorded in the Maldives this year.
