President and First Lady arrive in Kulhudhuffushi as part of visit to Haa Dhaalu Atoll

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have arrived in Kulhudhuffushi City, as part of their official trip to Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The president and first lady commenced their trip to Haa Dhaalu Atoll on July 16. Their first stop was Kulhudhuffushi City, where they were welcomed by Mayor Mohamed Athif, members of the Kulhudhuffushi City Council and senior officials of state institutions in the city.

During the trip to Haa Dhaalu Atoll, the president is also scheduled to visit the islands of Kumundhoo and Hanimaadhoo. The trip is part of the government’s efforts to work more closely with local councils and the public in formulating and implementing development plans in the atolls. As such, the president will discuss ongoing and planned development projects in the respective islands, and inquire on the difficulties currently faced in accessing fundamental services such as education and healthcare.

The president and first lady are accompanied at the trip by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali and Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail.

Meanwhile, the President’s Office has urged residents of Haa Dhaalu Atoll not to conduct mass gatherings to welcome the president during this visit, as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19. The President’s Office stated all relevant authorities and institutions in the islands have been instructed not to conduct large gatherings as welcoming events.
