Parliamentarian Abdulla Riyaz has left Jumhooree Party (JP) in the interest of forming a new political movement.
In a tweet announcing his decision to leave JP, Abdulla Riyaz said he wishes to efficiently serve the people and the country by forming a political party. He has also submitted a letter addressed to Ibrahim Qasim, the leader of JP. In the letter, he thanked the leadership and members of the party for their tremendous support and cooperation.
Riyaz, who served as a former police commissioner, joined JP after his retirement from the police service. At JP. he had served as its deputy leader.
His resignation comes at a time when one of his closest allies, Parliamentarian Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim is working on forming a new political party.
