State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has revealed the power grids of Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ have been interconnected under the Greater Male’ Interconnection Project.
STELCO revealed all physical works of the project have now been completed, after the connection of the cables installed in Male’ near the Sinamale’ Bridge. STELCO said the interconnection of the power grids would ensure that any problems encountered to the power grid of an individual region could be countered through the power grid of an interconnected region. STELCO said the interconnection cables installed under the Sinamale’ Bridge can carry 100MW of electricity.
The Greater Male’ Interconnection Project was funded by a loan arranged from the Exim Bank of China. The aim of the project is to sustainably provide electricity service in the Greater Male’ Region without interruptions.
