Speaking at a panel discussion hosted by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on the social media platform Clubhouse, the education minister said the budget has been allocated to improve the education services in two regions. Minister Aishath said the government has planned to increase education services in five regions in total, and the work includes improving human resources, raising the standards of education programmes, as well as developing infrastructure. She said the government plans to develop sports facilities and STEM laboratories in the islands and include programmes aimed at building skills in the national education curriculum.

Furthermore, the minister said efforts will resume with the academic new year although the work to develop the education sector has been stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also noted the government has been working to complete 154 education-related projects since 2018 and that USD 19 million have been spent so far. She detailed that 18 of the projects have been completed while 53 projects are ongoing and 89 projects will begin this year.

The government has allocated USD 260 million in the state budget for 105 education-related projects planned for this year. The projects include improving schools, classrooms, and education resources to increase the standard of education for students.
