Ekuveni Synthetic Track reopened after nearly two months

Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has reopened the Ekuveni Synthetic Track in Male’, following the eased COVID-19 restrictions in the capital.

The synthetic track was closed on May 4, as part of the measures imposed by Health Protection Agency (HPA) to curb the latest outbreak of COVID-19. With the recent decrease in COVID-19 cases, HPA has eased some of the restrictions and permitted the synthetic track to be reopened for the public. However, the track is still only open for individual exercise and users must maintain social distancing and observe other safety measures when using the track.

The youth ministry stated although the track was built for a capacity of 800 people, the new guidelines for the operation of the track would only permit 600 people to use the track at the same time. The ministry stated it will be inspecting the level of compliance to guidelines by users of the track.

The Ekuveni Synthetic Track was inaugurated in January this year. The project upgraded the old Ekuveni running track into a state-of-the-art synthetic nine-lane running track. The project was carried out with the financial assistance of the Indian government.
