Over 550,000 tourist arrivals recorded so far this year

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 555,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded in the Maldives so far this year.

As per the latest statistics published by the tourism ministry, the Maldives has recorded 555,494 tourists so far this year, with the halfway point of the year approaching. The statistics revealed 46,023 tourists have visited the Maldives so far in June, representing an average of about 1,800 arrivals per day.

The statistics revealed the largest number of tourist arrivals this year was recorded from Russia, which shares 24.3% of the market. India is second on the list with an 18% share.

Despite reaching half a million tourist arrivals this year, the numbers for May and June have dropped significantly compared to previous months. The drop has been attributed to the strengthened COVID-19 measures in the Maldives as well as other countries with significant shares of the tourist market in the Maldives.
