Maldive Gas MD’s suspension lifted after nearly two years

The suspension imposed on the Managing Director of Maldive Gas Private Limited Shazail Shiyam due to a corruption investigation has been lifted after nearly two years.

Maldive Gas released a statement announcing the suspension of its managing director had been lifted on June 20, after Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) declared that the corruption allegations raised against him could not be proven. He had been suspended since October 2019, after several complaints of corruption and influence-peddling were submitted to the online portal established for corruption cases by the President’s Office, under the “Zero Tolerance to Corruption” policy of the administration.

Meanwhile, Deputy Managing Director of Maldive Gas Ikram Ali resigned in March this year, after ACC launched a corruption investigation against him. He was implicated in the case related to the awarding of a contract to a Singaporean company to procure 4,128 oxygen cylinders.
