Ministry of Tourism has revealed the average number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives is now increasing.
The latest statistics from the ministry shows the daily number of tourist arrivals are currently at 1,812, which is an increase compared to the average of 1,700 at the start of the month. However, a total of 30,801 tourists have visited the Maldives from June 1 to 17, which is a 52.5% decrease compared to the 64,910 tourist arrivals recorded in the same period in 2019.
Overall, tourist arrivals to the Maldives were on the rise at the beginning of the year, with a daily average of 2,971 tourist arrivals in January, 3,460 arrivals in February, 3,535 in March, and 3,040 in April. The recent dip in tourist arrivals was the result of the halt in tourist visits from India and the spike in COVID-19 cases in the Maldives.
The statistics show tourist visits are climbing again following the decline in COVID-19 cases in the country, with most tourists visiting from Russia. The statistics also show 24% of the tourist arrivals are from Russia, 18% are from India, and 5.5% are from Germany.
The tourism ministry has stated that tourists stay in the Maldives for an average of nine days.
