MTCC completes land reclamation of Dhuvaafaru

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the land reclamation of Dhuvaafaru, Raa Atoll.

MTCC said the land reclamation component of the project has now been completed, with a total of 22.2 hectares of land reclaimed as part of the project. The state-owned company said it is currently undertaking the shore protection works of the project, which includes construction of a 70-metre revetment.

The land reclamation and shore protection project of Dhuvaafaru began on February 27 this year. The project, worth USD 9.2 million, aims to increase the land capacity of Dhuvaafaru and resolve the housing issues faced in the island.

Dhuvaafaru was populated by people from the nearby island of Kandholhudhoo, that was destroyed in the 2004 Tsunami. The population of the island now exceeds 2,900, filling nearly all available land in the island.
