Dhoogas to be turned into a quarantine facility

Addu City Council has decided to turn the Dhoogas guesthouse in Gan, Addu City to a quarantine facility.

Speaking to PSM News, Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar said the city council decided to use Dhoogas as a quarantine facility due to the large numbers of expatriates testing positive for COVID-19 in Addu. The mayor said Dhoogas will be developed to accommodate 60 people under quarantine.

A large COVID-19 cluster has formed among expatriates in Addu City, with 37 cases confirmed as of 1800hrs on June 14. Mayor Nizar said discussions are underway on imposing a lockdown in Hithadhoo if the situation keeps getting worse.

As of June 14, there are 73 active COVID-19 cases in Addu City. Since April 30, 367 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Addu.
