Salon owners inform President on the issues faced over the pandemic

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with salon owners to inquire about the difficulties faced in the industry.

During the meeting held online, several salon owners informed the president of underlying issues in the industry and issues faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The president assured the suggestions salon owners made would be considered in the ease-plan which is being developed by the government.

Similar to most businesses on halt due to the pandemic, all salons have been asked to close down over the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the Greater Male' Region. Since May 6, salons, gyms, fitness classes, cinemas, and parks in the Greater Male' Region were closed until further notice following instructions of the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The government has introduced a stimulus package as part of the efforts to assist in the financial issues faced by small and medium-sized enterprises. Over USD 22 million were disbursed to such businesses while around USD 1.3 million were disbursed to individuals as of last April, according to statistics of the Ministry of Finance.
