Parliament reviewing nomination to be appointed as Morrocan Ambassador

Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs has begun reviewing the nomination from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to appoint Dr. Asim Ahmed as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Morocco.

Dr. Asim is the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations (UN) Office at Geneva, Switzerland. He has held numerous senior government positions including Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He previously held the position of Minister of Education, served as the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA) and served on a number of boards, committees and high-level councils, including the National Security Council. He has also provided consultancies in a wide range of social and economic areas to a number of United Nations bodies and international organisations.

Dr. Asim completed his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Politics at the University of South Pacific, Fiji, in 1989. He attained a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, UK in 1992. He further completed a Ph.D. in Social Policy at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 2011.
