Quarantine required during travel even if recovered from COVID-19

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has mandated quarantine for all individuals travelling from the Greater Male’ Region to the atolls, even if they have recovered from COVID-19.

HPA had previously stated individuals who had recovered from COVID-19 within three months before the date of travel would not be required to undergo quarantine. However, the latest circular signed by Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru states all individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 will also be required to quarantine when travelling. However, they would not be required to take a PCR test at the end of the 14-day quarantine period unless they show symptoms of COVID-19.

HPA had eased some of the COVID-19 restrictions imposed in the country during April, and published a guideline to allow individuals to travel without quarantine. However, the surge of COVID-19 cases and deaths that began in May led to the tightening of restrictions once again.
