Government Oversight Committee approves Dr. Hussain for Fisheries Minister

Government Oversight Committee of the Parliament has approved the appointment of Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan as the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture.

Dr. Hussain, who was previously the Minister of Environment, was appointed to the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture on May 5, following the resignation of Zaha Waheed from the position. The committee delayed approving Dr. Hussain for the position due to his stake in a private company. However, Dr. Hussain was approved on June 11 by the committee after discussions with the Attorney General's Office and ascertaining that he does not receive any income from the private company. PSM News has received information that Dr. Hussain has sold his shares in the company.

As part of the changes brought to the cabinet on May 5, Aminath Shauna, previously the Policy Secretary of the President's Office, was appointed as the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology. The committee approved her nomination on May 26. The Parliament approved her as the environment minister on June 9, with 57 votes in favour of the appointment.
