Male' City Council has stated parking spots have been temporarily leased from the industrial village.
Speaking at a press conference held to disseminate information regarding efforts of the Male' City Council, Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said the city council is working to increase the efficiency at the industrial village developed in the southwest area of Male'. Mayor Muizzu said the council is currently working with Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) to clean up the waste at the industrial village within two weeks. He added the council is in discussions with Maldives Police Service (MPS) to establish a police post in the area. The council will be controlling access by establishing a specific entrance and exit to and from the industrial village, as well as placing police surveillance in the area, he said.
Highlighting the high number of vehicles parked at the industrial village, the mayor said the council will be generating income from the area by leasing parking spots, in addition to completing the plan of relocating warehouses. He has vowed to develop the industrial village quickly and allow new businesses to lease land from the area.
The purpose of the industrial village is to relocate warehouses, workshops, and other industrial establishments from the residential parts of the capital city. Male' City Council has developed an online portal as part of the work to gather information on the warehouses, workshops, and garages in the capital city.
