Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) has revealed 93% of patients hospitalised at the Hulhumale' Medical Facility (HMF) in May had not received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Statistics from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) shows 718 of the 725 HMF patients hospitalised in May were released by the end of the month.
Speaking at the press conference held by the HEOC, Spokesperson at the President's Office Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said 93% of patients hospitalised at HMF in May had not received the second dose of the vaccine. The latest update from HPA showed around 166 patients have been hospitalised and are receiving treatment for COVID-19. As such, HMF is treating 89 COVID-19 patients, with 8 in the ICU and 5 on ventilator support.
Furthermore, Dharumavantha Hospital is treating 26 COVID-19 patients, while Hulhumale' Hospital is treating 20 patients, and ADK Hospital is treating 4 patients. In the facilities across the atoll, 3 COVID-19 patients are being treated at the facility in Addu, 5 patients are being treated at the facility in Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll, and 10 patients are being treated at the facility in Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll. Also, 5 patients are at the facility in Gan, Laamu Atoll, 2 patients are at the facility in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu, and the facilities in Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Fuvahmulah City are treating one patient each.
Most individuals who are receiving treatment for COVID-19 are patients suffering from long-term health problems, according to the HPA.
Health experts have stated the main factor for the prevention of COVID-19 is receiving vaccinations. The statistics from the HPA shows that around 311,000 individuals have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 172,000 have received the second dose.
