Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 100,000 tourists have visited the Maldives from Russia so far this year.
As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, 107,102 tourists have visited from Russia so far this year, constituting 23.4% of all tourist arrivals during this period. The number of tourist arrivals from Russia in 2021 has exceeded the figures from both 2019 and 2020, when 83,369 and 61,387 arrivals were recorded from Russia respectively.
Russia is currently the top source market of tourists to the Maldives, taking over from India following the latest surge of COVID-19 in the neighbouring country. India is second on the list of the most number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year, with 89,442 arrivals. Ukraine is third on the list with 25,344 arrivals so far this year.
As per the statistics of the tourism ministry, the Maldives has recorded 457,747 tourist arrivals so far this year, with the highest number of arrivals recorded during the month of March when 109,585 arrivals were recorded. Tourist arrivals have dropped during April and May, with 91,200 and 64,613 arrivals recorded during the two months respectively.
The tourism ministry stated tourists currently spend an average of 9 days in the Maldives.
