Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has announced the extension of the curfew hours imposed in the Greater Male’ Region.
HEOC had previously imposed a curfew from 1600hrs until 0400hrs in the Greater Male’ Region. As part of the new measures announced on May 24, HEOC revealed the curfew in the capital will now run from 1600hrs until 0800hrs. HEOC revealed a permit would be required to go out at all times, including the non-curfew hours.
HEOC further announced two residential permits would be issued by Maldives Police Service (MPS) to each household, which can be used between 0800hrs and 1600hrs. One permit would be valid between 0800hrs and 1200hrs, while the other permit would be valid between 1200hrs and 1600hrs.
HEOC stated shops, cafes and restaurants will be able to provide delivery services from 0600hrs until 0000hrs. However, shops are not allowed to bring customers inside during curfew hours, and cafe/restaurants are not allowed to provide take-away services during curfew hours. Establishments violating the guideline are to be fined USD 325.
HEOC further announced individuals can travel between Male’, Hulhumale’ and Villimale’ during non-curfew hours with a permit. However, the permits will only be issued for essential purposes.
Restrictions in the Greater Male’ Region have been tightened once again due to the continued surge of COVID-19 cases in the capital. COVID-19 cases and deaths have increased significantly in the Maldives over the past few weeks.
