MIRA recovers USD 31 million from enforced collections in Q1

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has recovered USD 31 million from enforced collections in the first quarter of 2021.

In the publicised report for the first quarter of 2021, MIRA states it recovered USD 13 million from dues clearances, and USD 11.5 million from dunning or persistent requests. The quarterly report shows USD 5.9 million was recovered due to reminder calls and e-mails while USD 11,203 was recovered from legal actions. Furthermore, MIRA issued final notices to 8,314 non-filers and 2,055 non-payers, while Installment plans were granted to 171 taxpayers.

The report also shows that MIRA recorded USD 1.4 billion in outstanding payments, including fines, as of March 31. The outstanding payments include USD 307 million for tax due payments and USD 1.1 billion for non-tax due payments.

MIRA has also granted relief in 1,419 cases in the first quarter, which totals to USD 2.9 million granted as relief.
