Ministry of Higher Education has revealed there are 12,000 training requirements in the government across different fields.
The higher education ministry conducted a training needs analysis in the Maldives, and published its results in the book titled Government Training Requirements 2021-2023. The book was launched in a virtual ceremony held on May 20.
As per the book, the highest number of training requirements was identified for teacher training with subject specialization, with a total of 2,712 requirements identified in the field. General management and administration has 840 training requirements, while nursing and midwifery has 809 training requirements. Other fields at the top of the list include child care and youth services, social work and counselling, medicine, software and applications development and analysis as well as library, information and archival studies.
The book also revealed Ministry of Education has the largest number of training requirements by one office, with 4,429. Ministry of Health is second on the list of training requirements by office, with 4,253 training requirements.
The survey also identified the training requirements by the level of qualification as per the Maldives National Qualification Framework (MNQF). As such, 45% of the training requirements identified are for MNQF Level 7, while 22% are for MNQF Level 5.
The survey was undertaken by the higher education ministry in order to identify and address the performance gaps and to continually upgrade competencies and skills at the government offices as well as training the future labour pool.
