COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives surpasses 100

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives has surpassed 100.

HPA confirmed the death of another four people from COVID-19 on May 17, including three women aged 56, 70 and 80, and a man aged 64. This took the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the Maldives to 101.

As per the latest update by HPA, 1,433 new cases were reported in the Maldives on May 17, including 1,294 cases in the Greater Male’ Region. There are currently 16,997 active cases and 268 patients receiving treatment at hospitals or medical facilities.

Furthermore, the latest update from the HPA also shows 145,372 people have received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines, while 303,336 people have received the first dose. Maldives is currently administering Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccines, with the rollout of Covishield suspended due to limited stocks.
