Ministry of Tourism has revealed tourist arrivals recorded in the Maldives from Russia this year is nearing 100,000.
As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, 95,670 tourists have visited the Maldives this year from Russia. This is a 55% increase compared to the 61,387 arrivals recorded from Russia last year. It has also exceeded the total of 83,369 tourists that visited the Maldives from Russia in 2019.
Russia recently took over from India as the top source market of tourists to the Maldives in 2021, following the decrease in tourist arrivals from India amid the surge of COVID-19 in the neighbouring country. India has contributed 89,175 tourists to the Maldives this year.
As per the statistics of the tourism ministry, a total of 421,196 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year. The largest number of arrivals were recorded in March with 109,585 arrivals. The statistics show that tourists currently spend an average of 9 days in the Maldives.
