Ministry of Tourism has revealed the daily average of tourist arrivals in the Maldives has dropped since the beginning of May.
As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, the daily average of tourist arrivals in May has been 2,619. At the beginning of the year, the daily average was at 3,000.
The statistics revealed a total of 28,809 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this month. This is a 30% decrease compared to the same period in May 2019.
Maldives has suspended issuing tourist visas to travellers from other South Asian countries due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the subcontinent. This is expected to have a significant impact on tourist arrivals, as India has been the top source market of tourists to the Maldives so far this year.
