Speaker Nasheed recovering well from injuries sustained in May 6 attack

The family of the Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has revealed the speaker is recovering well from the injuries sustained in the terrorist attack on May 6.

Speaking to PSM News, Speaker Nasheed’s brother Dr. Ibrahim Nashid said the speaker is currently recovering well from his injuries, adding there is no immediate danger to his life right now. Nashid said decisions will soon be made on transferring the speaker abroad for further treatment that is not available locally. He added the decisions will be made based on the advice of doctors treating him at ADK Hospital.

Speaking further, Nashid said the speaker’s condition has significantly improved in the past few days. As such, he noted the speaker can now sit up, speak and drink fluids. Therefore, he said there is no urgency to take him abroad.

The speaker and former president had suffered serious life-threatening injuries in the bomb attack on May 6 near his residence in Male’. ADK Hospital revealed the speaker underwent life-saving surgery on injuries to his head, chest, abdomen and limbs over the course of 16 hours.
