Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Maldives Immigration have held discussions on speeding up the process of deporting foreign nationals involved in criminal activity.
MPS and Immigration held a meeting to solve the difficulties in deporting foreign nationals who are repeatedly caught involved in muggings and selling drugs. At the meeting, senior officials discussed the negative impact on the community due to the foreign nationals involved in criminal activities such as stealing electrical equipment and other items from construction sites, as well as using and selling drugs. The officials highlighted that most foreigners involved in criminal activities are undocumented, making it difficult to confirm their identities.
Furthermore, Immigration officials at the meeting highlighted the difficulties faced in deporting foreign nationals currently in their custody, making it unfeasible to deal with new requests for deportation. The officials agreed to work together more closely to solve these issues to speed up the process of deportation and hold a follow-up meeting to review the progress.
