Health Protection Agency (HPA) has temporarily halted the rollout of Covishield vaccine in the Greater Male’ Region.
HPA suspended the rollout of Covishield in the capital due to decreasing stocks of the vaccine in the Maldives. HPA stated the vaccine shipment which was due to be supplied by the Serum Institute of India (SII) last month did not arrive due to the current COVID-19 situation in India. HPA stated a date of resumption will be announced later.
Maldives began its COVID-19 vaccination programme on February 1 with the first 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccine granted by India. Since then, the Maldives has also started administering Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccines.
As per the latest vaccination updates, over 298,000 people have received the first dose of the vaccine in the Maldives. Meanwhile, over 114,000 people have received the second dose of the vaccine.
