Maldives Police Service, Maldives Customs Service and Maldives Immigration have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sharing information through the Global Travel Assessment System (GTAS).
The MoU was signed at a ceremony held at the Customs Building on May 3. The MoU was signed by Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, Commissioner General of Customs Abdulla Shareef and Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Ahmed Hussain.
GTAS is a web application for improving border security. It enables government agencies to automate the identification of high-risk air travelers in advance of their intended travel. The MoU signed on May 3 would enable Maldives Customs Service to share information on Advance Passenger Information (ATI) and Passenger Name Records (PNR) with Maldives Police Service and Maldives Immigration.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Commissioner General of Customs Abdulla Shareef said GTAS will enable advanced tracking of any possible criminal activity and enhance border security of the Maldives. He thanked the governments of Japan and the United States for the assistance provided in facilitating the use of GTAS in collaborative efforts between the three law enforcement institutions in maintaining national security.
