Five members appointed to the Police Appeal Committee

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has appointed five members to the police appeal committee in accordance with the Maldives Police Service Act.

The committee consists of former Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohamed Sadiq, Azmeen Rasheed, Fathimath Leena, Minna Nafiz, and Ahmed Shihad.

The Maldives Police Service Act states the appeal committee is tasked with reviewing appeals for decisions made by the disciplinary board, and will consist of five members representing the public appointed by the home minister. It also states that citizens who serve in the Maldives Police Service are not allowed to be members of the appeal committee, and the rules for reviewing appeals are the same as the rules for the disciplinary board.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the Maldives Police Service Act in December 2020. The Act establishes the fundamental principles, guidelines, roles and other aspects concerning police officers, aiming to streamline policing in the country by ensuring adherence to the constitution.
