More than 300 farmers have registered at the Agricentre, established by State Trading Organisation (STO) to buy agricultural produce.
Speaking to PSM, Agricentre's Operations Manager Mohamed Shahaad said many farmers have expressed interest in selling their products to the centre. Shahaad noted around 200 farmers registered to Agricentre when it was opened on April 13, and 100 more have registered within a week. He added Agricentre will be expanding the types of products it buys and farmers will receive their payment two days after their deliver their products.
STO Agricentre was established with the aim of providing Maldivian farmers the full benefit from the sale of their products, and to reduce agricultural imports and supply resorts with local products. The Agricentre is located at the building that previously housed the STO Construction Materials Wholesale Store in Male' City.
