UK seeking to further invest in the Maldives

UK International Trade Minister and Member of Parliament Ranil Jayawardena has revealed efforts are underway to identify the joint business and investment opportunities in the Maldives.

Answering a question posed at the UK Parliament regarding the relations between the UK and the Maldives, Jayawardena upheld the Maldives as an important partner of the UK. Revealing efforts are underway to identify business and investment opportunities between both countries, Jayawardena said it includes food sector, defence sector, education and health sector, fitness sector, environment and science as well as sustainable development sector. He added the UK is seeking to invest in finance sector, development and renewable energy sources in the Maldives.

Since gaining independence from the British in 1965, the Maldives have enjoyed close, friendly and mutually beneficial relations with the UK. Maldives attaches great importance to its relationship with the UK, and hopes that bi-lateral cooperation on economic, social and political development can move from strength to strength.
