Majority of ballot boxes closed, voter turnout at 65%

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has revealed the majority of ballot boxes placed for the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women’s Development Committee Elections (WDCE) have now been closed, with voter turnout just above 65%.

As per the statistics shared by ECM, 178,280 people had voted in the election as of 1850hrs. They represent 65.27% of the 273,128 people who are eligible to vote in the election.

ECM revealed some ballot boxes are yet to be closed, due to delays in the start of voting at these boxes. The latest boxes to be closed would be the boxes placed in Vilufushi, Thaa Atoll, which are scheduled to be closed at 2145hrs.
