Tourist arrivals surpass 100,000 in a month for the first time during pandemic

Maldives records 100,000 tourist arrivals in a single month for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Celebrating the milestone, the 100,000th tourist who arrived in the Maldives was warmly welcomed at the Velana International Airport (VIA). The 100,000th tourist was Hana Mohamed Ahmed Kamal Mostafa from Egypt, who arrived in the Maldives to celebrate her honeymoon. She said she chose Maldives for her honeymoon destination to explore the natural beauty of the country.

Speaking to PSM News after welcoming the 100,000th arrival, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ahmed Athif said the increasing number of arrivals shows the target of reaching 1.5 million tourist arrivals for 2021 can be achieved by the end of the year. He expressed hope tourist arrivals will continue to increase in the coming months.
